Why is CH-LOGIN being replaced by AGOV login?
The AGOV login is gradually replacing the previous CH-LOGIN, which is available for the Federal Administration's e-government services. AGOV is Switzerland's official authority login and has been in operation since 2024. You can use it with the Confederation as well as with cantonal and communal authorities, for example when you want to complete your tax return electronically. The AGOV login offers several advantages over CH-LOGIN: thanks to new technology, you no longer need a username or password with AGOV. Instead, you use an app on your smartphone or a security key. This is a secure and at the same time user-friendly solution.
New users can create an AGOV login directly.
Existing CH-LOGIN users can make the switch in just a few steps. Information and instructions can be found online at .
What is the timeline?
The transition from CH-LOGIN to AGOV is taking place in stages. Here are the planned phases:- Currently [as of March 2026], you can use both the CH-LOGIN and the AGOV login. However, we recommend that you start using the AGOV login now.
- As of 10 May 2026, it will no longer be possible to register new CH-LOGINs. However, existing CH-LOGINs can still be used.
- As of 14 February 2027, the CH-LOGIN can no longer be used for standard access. However, it can still be used to switch to the AGOV login – all permissions from the CH-LOGIN will be transferred to the AGOV login in this way.
- By the end of 2027, all users who are still using a CH-LOGIN must switch to the AGOV login. Users who have not switched their CH-LOGIN to the AGOV login by then will lose access to the permissions and data associated with their CH-LOGIN.
What do users need to do?
If you have a CH-LOGIN, simply click on AGOV during the login selection to switch and proceed with the registration of your AGOV account.Existing AGOV users do not need to make any changes and can continue working directly with their existing AGOV login.
